“I don’t know what to do.”

“I get nervous in front of the camera.”

These are, perhaps the most common feedbacks and concerns from our clients during our face to face consultation. It’s normally perfect to feel that way. There’s absolutely nothing wrong, and do not feel you’re alien if this happen to you.

We’re not born to be a superstar. Therefore posing in front of the camera that belongs to someone you barely know to have  your images being captured is something that is very unusual to many of us. As a photographer, we often face this and simply have to solve this. So how?

There are different ways and different approaches. For me, I am thankful I am able to make friends with my clients the very first day we met. Ice broken and there’s no barrier in friendship, that we appreciate each other’s presence and hence trust is built. Over the years capturing wedding moments, I am allowed to be at the moments, recording them through my lens with only inches away from my clients.

I have melted in the environment, be part of their family and the trust they hold in me allow me to get my job done more easily. I do not have to hide in and out, but feeling the flexibility to move on their most special, getting their images captured in the most naturally way.

Capturing moments is what I love most in wedding photography. Having my clients’ trust pledged in me for such freedom, I am always thankful. I am even more thankful for our friendships don’t end right after the wedding. But I have been in touch with many of my clients, and the friendship continue even after their weddings. This is priceless to me!

With trust like this, we’re able to create many wonderful shots that is probably not repeatable. You melt in the environment, sing the same song with the clients as they treat you just like part of the family. That’s the intimacy built over time.

Just in between times, I managed just to grab a few shots while the bride was getting ready in between. So waiting was not as bored as what many thought.

You must recognise this brand if you ever been to Indonesia.

They produce great bottled tea. Love them since my uni days in Australia, tasting it in Indonesia cuisine.

Ben and Ai Ling celebrated their first child, Violet on 28 July. This is a special post to congratulate their newborn.

It is my privilege to have the 2 hour session spent with Ben & Ai Ling just weeks before their celebration. That’s truly my pleasure, other than having opportunity to photograph their wedding last year. I strongly believe that’s suppose to be the relationship a photographer connects with his clients, and be thankful for the trust that allows him to continue to provide his value added service in years to come.

Often, we see kids in any wedding.

They run around, climbing up and down while the ceremony was half way running. They could be going a little bit more extreme by screaming or shouting. They don’t care what’s going around them. They won’t know if the wedding ceremony might be best to run in a quiet ambiance.

That’s their own sense of attitude. It’s just them! Because they are kids!

It is beyond words and my ability to put in words to describe how much I love photographing kids in their very own moments. They are real, never been pretentious. Being innocent they just behave the one they should be.

This post is specially dedicated to kids. I hope you love the photos here, as I compile them from 2 or 3 weddings.

Leonard and Babara had their wedding on one fine Saturday. It was the longest hours I ever encountered so far, and I felt nothing except body ache after the whole day ceremony which was the only thing I realised straight after I put down my camera gears at the end of the dinner reception. Imagine if you had to carry two bodies with big lenses, moreover with flashes that in total weighted about 10kg the whole. I am pretty sure the body ache I had was not the sign of aging.

It’s beyond words to describe how much I love this image. They were unposed, and the expressions were all natural.

Best thing about dinner reception is to capture every moment and every laughter if you pay more attention.

The fun about doing a wedding day photography is about capturing the moments that are memorable. It helps me to push hard for the right moment, and be a lot more alert to the surrounding. Challenging, much more tiring and yet, most satisfying. I vow to have my best for the newly wed in every wedding day, and I know it has been so far so good in every wedding I have been assigned. What a blessing!

Not the most fancy wedding, but a decent one. We had good time celebrating our wedding day on 07.07.2007. A day that is easy to remember.

3 years later, we’re now married for 3 years. Day by day, and year after year. We thank God for putting us together, and the relationship is even more solid than gold and diamond. We believe it’s God’s wonders that put us together.

It’s like yesterday. First anniversary we were away in KK to get away. Last year was a memorable one, having our little celebration in a fine dining restaurant, also celebrating my very first award winning in wedding photography in WPPI. Time flies, this time we made it simple as well due to certain reason. Italian food wasn’t that bad at all. At least we had great time together.

More years to come, more celebration being together as husband and wife. More solid relationship, which God in our midst who never stop pouring abandon blessings on us. We love You, God. Thank You for everything. That’s what a marriage for.

I received a phone call on Saturday afternoon from Cynthia, requesting a corporate look portraiture session as she needed it in 2 or 3 days time. My schedule didn’t allow me to have a long session prior to her due date of submission. However looking at my timetable the next day, Sunday, I could still spare about 5 minutes  to have her one required photo done before I started a pregnancy session with another couple.

Hence, with the minimum set up, with the equipment I had in hand, I nailed down about 30 over shots, filter and select a few like the below:

The most basic principle I always use for a portraiture which never fail me is in the sequence like this:

1. Knowing where your light comes from.

2. Define the location where you want have your subject to be.

3. Pose, pose, pose

4. Adjusting your camera setting like exposure if necessary.

5. Refining the process until you get the shot you want.
