One of the huge advantages we have as photographers nowadays is being mobile, thanks to the Creative Lighting Solution (CLS) creation. Putting away the heavy and bulky studio lighting equipment to achieve similar result and this simply means, we can move all around, from town to town or even country to country to fulfill our commitments to capture portraits.
I have been doing this quite a while, with handy equipments packed in my backpack in getting some portraitures done for a few listed company directors and their top management personnel in the country last year. This year, I even have more people asking about doing their personal or family portraitures. The CLS would just be handy to fulfill the need. It’s such a blessing!
Below are just some photos I took a moment ago, using my usual, fully committed, one and only model I have, Alicia, while she was watching her fave TV program, “The Biggest Loser”.
The venue was my humble little apartment. Nothing fancy, just simple living room set up.

This photo was captured with a single light source on the left. The light was just nice and sufficient on Alicia’s face. However due to only single light source, Alicia’s dark hair had lost its detail to the background.

To solve problem, I basically put another light source (flash) behind Alicia and light it to split the background and Alicia’s hair. Then, this is basically a much better photo than the first.

Similar technique was used for the above photo. A main light source was placed at the right side while second light source was directly pointed at Alicia’s hair to ensure the hair details could be separated and be seen from the dark background. Shadow, in this case is a good friend of mine to create a more mysterious feel to the subject. It looks more dramatic in the picture.
